President’s Message – March 2017

“We have approximately 60,000 thoughts in a day. Unfortunately, 95% of them are thoughts we had the day before.” — Deepak Chopra

The above Deepak Chopra quote captures the context of what the speakers at our upcoming Annual Conference, being held March 15th–17th, in Carlsbad, CA, will be addressing. We are all creatures of habit, and unless we change habits and hear and embrace new ideas, we are destined to perpetuate what feels comfortable even as we wish for a different outcome.

At Annual Conference you will hear from two great keynote speakers — Shane Battier and Brian Beaulieu — who will inspire you, educate you, and have you considering a different approach to some of your everyday activities. Shane will discuss the importance of leadership and the necessary skills needed to create and build a winning team – clearly topics that he has experienced throughout his sports and business life. Brian will discuss relevant and complex economic and enterprise topics in a practical and meaningful way. His economic forecasts are accurate over 95% of the time so you can be confident that the information you receive will help your company thrive in both the short and long term, especially in these interesting and changing times.

Additionally, we have an outstanding array of prominent Council Breakout sessions, as each of the Councils has secured unique and outstanding speakers for the many education/networking sessions that will have processors and suppliers talking. These breakout speakers will represent the following companies: Kroger; Chipotle; Maple Leaf Food; Monogram Foods; Dairy Farms of America; Rack & Riddle Winery; Hampton Creek; BAKERpedia; Indiana Whiskey; Palmermo's Pizza; Pronto Engineering; EAS Consulting Group; Plato Pet Treats; and, Taylor Fresh Foods. These sessions along with the networking opportunities provided will allow you to make connections with those companies you are already doing business with, or those you would like to.

In addition, you will hear about the very latest innovations and movements in our industry during our two “Lunch-N-Learn” sessions entitled: “The Smart Food Factory and Industry 4.0;” and, “Global Food & Drink Emerging Trends in 2017”. Last and not least, in addition to bringing you up to speed on all the new and exciting changes that will take place at PROCESS EXPO, we will be holding two very critical focus group sessions where we are seeking valued member input. These sessions, “Process Expo 17: Show Activities; Show Marketing; Exhibitor Engagement”; and, “Growth Markets and Value Propositions for your Business and the Association” will not only be engaging but will also provide great new ideas and insights for both your business and for the Association.

Best of all, the upcoming Conference will provide what attendees seek most of all — networking opportunities. Click here for a full schedule of events, and registration information. I am looking forward to seeing you in warm, sunny California at our appropriately themed FPSA “Where Leaders Meet” Annual Conference, where all of us will hear and learn new ideas.
