President’s Message – February 2019

The above quote seems to be very appropriate for our upcoming Annual Conference that will be held starting March 19th through March 21st at the beautiful La Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. Our conference will be replete with a full compliment of educational sessions, opportunities to learn about driving the growth of your business, and at the same time provide outstanding networking opportunities.

Dawn Hudson, former President & CEO of Pepsi Cola North America & PepsiCo Foodservice and Chief Marketing Officer for the National Football League will be our keynote speaker. Dawn has twice been named to Fortune magazine's annual “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” list and is the legendary marketer known for such phrases as the “Joy of Cola” and the “Pepsi Challenge”. Hudson's track record of success is packed with ground breaking ideas and her revolutionary work strengthening brands' positioning and marketing, tapping into culture change as fuel for innovative business strategies, and championing inclusive leadership and diversity. I know all attendees will be able to learn from what will be an inspiring presentation.

Due to the tremendous success of last year's “Food Safety and Sanitary Design Panel Discussion” this important session will once again be included in our conference. The panel will consist of key subject matter experts from important food processors such as TreeHouse Foods, Taylor Farms, Land O'Frost, Sargento Foods, and others from across major industry segments and the retail sector and be discussing topics that will focus on critical standards and requirements that impact our industry.

We have also arranged an outstanding slate of Council breakout sessions that you will surely not want to miss. We have speakers presenting from Tyson Foods, Darigold, HHP Fresh, Caribbean Food Delights, CBM Global, CocoCanna, Thrushwood Farms, Epstein Architecture, and JBT just to name a few. These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity for you to either make new connections you would like to do business with or network with those that your currently know.

I am also pleased to announce that the FPSA Board of Directors, after consultation and receiving support from the MISA Foundation, decided to create a new association event aimed in uniting the association and strengthening our horizontal theme. As such, the inaugural “2019 FPSA Banquet & Auction” will take place on Wednesday night. The event will be hosted by comedian of the Cooking

Channel's “Eat Street” – James Cunningham and the funds raised at the event will be allocated to either the MISA Foundation for their scholarship program or to the FPSA for future charitable endeavors to be determined by our Councils.

If you have not already, I would urge you to consider registering as soon as possible as we are already experiencing limited space at the conference hotel. Click here to register! Likewise, I would also encourage all guests to consider signing for the San Antonio city tour; the Grape Creek Vineyard tour; and the Women's Alliance Network Pack it for San Antonio activity which is part of the association's Giving Back efforts in conjunction with the San Antonio Food Bank. The volunteer session will take place on Tuesday, March 19th from 12:45-4:30 pm and open to all conference attendees and you can register by contacting Ann Marie Penaranda at apenaranda@fpsa.org.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I were not to talk about our new Job Board that is going “live” in mid- February. We are happy to be unveiling this new member benefit this month in order to compliment your efforts for finding new talent. The Job Board will be promoted via social media and will reside on both the FPSA and PROCESS EXPO websites.
